51 estates, 120 Chianti wine labels, a display area of 300 square metres, 60 labels of Vin Santo with an ad hoc institutional counter for the second year in a row; these are the numbers that distinguish the presence of the Consorzio Vino Chianti at the 51st edition of Vinitaly, to be held in Verona from April 9 – 12.

An event that comes after the excellent results obtained in Düsseldorf during the Prowein and during the South American tour, which have motivated many Consortium member estates to also participate in the International Wine Show in Verona.

“A demand that exceeds all expectations” explains Giovanni Busi, Chairman of the Consorzio Vino Chianti. Indeed, many estates will not be able to take part this year due to the running out of space in the exhibition area. “This is a strong signal – continues the Chairman – that comes above all from the small businesses, and tells us that the path taken by the Consortium in order to promote the Appellation on the domestic and international markets is the correct one. Just five years ago, the Consortium did not participate in this event; today, our presence is strong and solid, and the requests from the estates grow every year. It is precisely during these events that the wine producers have the chance to find out about market needs and expectations. The quality requested during these trade shows increases in direct proportion with the quality of the estates that present themselves and adapt to the requested standards through a continuous modernising of the vineyards.”

During the event, at the Consortium’s stand, in Pavilion 9, there will also be a round table (Tuesday 11 April at noon) promoted by the association “Le Donne del Vino della Toscana” (“The Women of Tuscany’s Wine”) dedicated to enhancing the value of complementary and autochthonous grape varieties. The round table participants will include the Councillor for Agriculture of the Tuscany Region, Marco Remaschi, Consorzio Chianti’s Chairman, Giovanni Busi, and the national President of “Donne del Vino”, Donatella Cinelli Colombini, along with the regional President, Donatella D’Isanto.

“An event that we are very happy to host – explains Marco Alessandro Bani, Director of the Consorzio Vino Chianti – and that aims to be a chance to also reflect on the growing trend of the female presence in our sector. Indeed, if we consider our members, out of a total of 1,688 wine producers over 25% are women. Exactly 429 female entrepreneurs who work and invest in a sector that for years was reserved exclusively to men, and which is evolving and renewing itself thanks to their contribution.”
